The most effective structure I've seen is a three-part model:

  • Technical leads who understand what's possible
  • Governance partners who understand the constraints

Instrument Everything

You can't govern what you can't measure. Build monitoring and measurement into your AI systems from day one.

This doesn't just mean technical metrics like model accuracy. It means business metrics like customer satisfaction, operational metrics like processing time, and governance metrics like bias detection and compliance adherence.

Plan for Failure

Things will go wrong. Models will drift. Edge cases will emerge. Regulations will change.

The companies that handle these challenges best have planned for them. They have incident response procedures, model rollback capabilities, and communication protocols ready to deploy.
